Funding Types

There are a number of different funding avenues available in Australia for those seeking to access Mental Health Support and you may be eligable to access some of these avenues.

Below is information on the different types of funding that CSC can access or accept on your behalf.

Private

You can self-refer to our service for psychotherapy or assessment consultation. This means that you do not require a referral to attend our service. You can contact us directly and book in.

The fees for a private session vary depending on the clinican.

Medicare

Mental Health Treatmetn Plan

We offer therapy under the Better Access initiative, which enables eligable people to access Medicare rebates via a Mental Health Treatment plan (MHTP).

A MHTP is a document that your GP writes with you about treating a mental health issue or condition. The document outlines the symptoms you are experiencing and may provide recommendations for treatment. The plan enables you to access a mental health clinician for therapy and allows you to claim a Medicare rebate, which covers a portion of the therapy session cost.

Fees

Rebate Type Rebate
Accredited Mental Health Social Worker $87.25

Referral

To make a referral through the Better Access Initiative, please visit your General Practitioner (GP) and request a double consultation so there is plenty of time to develop the treatment plan with you. Your GP will either give you a hard copy of the plan, or fax it over to us on (03) 90864174. Alternatively, you can seek a MHTP from a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician.

We require your MHTP prior to your first appointment.

Payment

Payments occur automatically at 9:00am on the day of your appointment. Once the appointment is completed, we process your rebate for you on your behalf immediately after your session, which means you don’t need to do anything. The rebate will go back into your account shortly after our session.

Sessions

CSC has a range of session options – 50mins, 90 mins, 2 hours. Rebates can be accessed for all of these session types if delivered by an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker.

The number of sessions that you will need will be dependent on your needs and presenting issues. Some people require a handful of sessions, while others require long-term therapy. You can discuss this with your clinician in session when you establish your therapeutic goals.

The Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS)

In 2024, VOCAT transitioned to the Financial Assistance Scheme. This is a Victoria Government scheme providing financial support to victims of violent crime, which can cover the costs of therapy.

Navigating the aftermath of violent crimes or family violence can be overwhelming, but you don’t have to journey alone. At Centre Self Collective, we’re here to walk alongside you on your path to recovery and proudly accept referrals under this new scheme.
