Our Story
Welcome! We are glad you are here.
We’re Amy Howell and Tamera (Tammie) Broughton, and together we co-founded Centre Self Collective (CSC).
We first met back in 2015 while working in community mental health, supporting people living with chronic and severe mental health challenges and psychosocial disability. Over time, our professional paths and our friendship intertwined, and we realised we shared the same vision: to create a space for mental and emotional health recovery that was both compassionate and grounded in a deep understanding of people within their wider worlds.
In 2021, we launched Centre Self Collective as the next step in that vision — a group practice where therapy, community, and systemic awareness could come together. Our mission – to help everyone prioritise their mental, emotional and social health.
We’re both Accredited Mental Health Social Workers, and our social work training is at the heart of everything we do. It’s given us a strong foundation in seeing mental health not just as an individual experience, but one shaped by social systems, community, and society. We hold intersectionality front of mind and always acknowledge that the challenges people face can’t be separated from the environments they live, work, and love in.
We’re proud to be an LGBTIQ+ allied service, and we’re committed to making CSC a safe, affirming space for everyone who walks through our doors. We’re also continually doing the work to decolonise our practice, reflecting on how we can be meaningful allies and challenge the impact of colonisation within mental health care.
From our beginnings, CSC has grown into a collective of like-minded clinicians who share these values. Together, we offer therapy, supervision, workshops, and organisational wellbeing services — always with a focus on warmth, connection, and inclusion.
