Your Questions About EMDR Immersive Programs, Answered | EMDR Daylesford Brunswick Online

Sometimes weekly therapy can feel like it’s moving too slowly—or like the session ends just as you’re starting to touch on what really matters. If that resonates, an EMDR Immersive program may be the shift you’ve been looking for.

At Centre Self Collective, we offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy in an immersive format to create space for deeper, more focused work. Below we’ve answered some of the most common questions people ask, to help you understand how this approach might support your healing journey.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR can be helpful for anyone experiencing distress from difficult or traumatic life events. Trauma doesn’t always mean one big, dramatic incident—it can also be the quieter, ongoing experiences that shape how we feel about ourselves and the world (read more about attachment trauma here).

Examples include:

  • Childhood bullying or emotional neglect
  • Growing up in a high-stress home environment
  • Relationship challenges
  • Low self-esteem or shame
  • Grief and chronic illness
  • Performance anxiety

If your past experiences are showing up in your present and holding you back, EMDR can help you process them and move forward.

Why choose an immersive program over weekly therapy?

Think of weekly sessions like a short walk, while an EMDR immersive program is more like a supported hike. Weekly sessions often involve time spent checking in, managing what’s come up, and settling before processing begins. An immersive minimises those interruptions, giving you longer, uninterrupted time to process and heal.

The result? You may need fewer overall sessions, and the work can often go deeper and feel more cohesive.

What can I expect from an EMDR Immersive?

Our EMDR immersive programs vary in length and inclusions, but all follow a similar structure. Sessions run for two hours, and you’ll have access to assessments, guided workbooks, and structured processing.

Your therapist will collaborate with you from the start—some people need more time building positive inner resources before diving into processing, while others may be ready to begin straight away. We’ll always tailor the pace to what feels safe and right for you.

Logistics: Funding & Practicalities

I’m already a weekly client. Can I participate?
Yes—our EMDR immersives are open to both existing and new clients. The best place to start is a conversation with your therapist.

Can I get a rebate?
Yes. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan, Medicare rebates apply. Some private health insurers (such as BUPA, Medibank, Teachers Health Fund, HCF, ARHG, and Doctors Health) also provide cover when sessions are with an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW). We recommend confirming with your fund before booking.

What about NDIS, TAC, or WorkSafe?

  • NDIS: EMDR therapy is eligible under “Improved Daily Living.” While the NDIA may not cover the full immersive cost, we’re happy to work with you to explore your supports.
  • TAC/WorkSafe: These providers may cover part of the program. It’s best to confirm details directly with your case manager.

Are online sessions as effective as in-person?
Yes. Research shows EMDR is effective both ways. The right choice depends on your needs:

  • Do you have a private, uninterrupted space at home?
  • Do you feel safer and more comfortable in your own environment?
  • Are you based rurally and want easier access to specialised therapy?

Are payment plans available?
Yes. We can set up a plan to make the immersive program more accessible. Full payment is required before your program begins, but we can book well in advance to give you time to prepare.

Bonus Support: The EMDR Resource Hub

As part of your program, you’ll receive access to our exclusive Resource Hub—an online library designed to support you before, during, and after your immersive sessions. It includes tools on topics such as:

  • Understanding your window of tolerance
  • Practical strategies for emotional regulation
  • Guided meditations and grounding practices

We continue to add to the hub, so you’ll have long-term resources at your fingertips.
