Cultivating Support for Pregnancy and Beyond

Are you mothering without family close by and feeling at a loss with who to ask for support?
Are you feeling burnt out and tired, knowing you need support but not sure where to find it?
Can you feel yourself drowning and feel like you have no one to turn to?
Do you have a history of mental illness and know the importance of setting yourself up with social, emotional, and practical supports, but need the time and space to make a plan?

Welcoming a new life into the world is a profound and beautiful journey, but it comes with its unique set of challenges, especially for new mothers. In this transformative period, the importance of a strong support network cannot be overstated. Beyond cuddles and cute baby clothes, a robust support system is the linchpin for improved mental health and overall wellbeing.

That is why we have created a 90-minute online workshop. Co-hosted by Ali Heppell and Bronte Taylor, our ‘Cultivating Support for Pregnancy and Beyond’ workshop aims to help you understand the importance of support, assess your current support structures, explore the spectrum of available supports, and address any gaps in your network.

Whether you’re expecting, in the early postpartum phase, or well into your mothering journey, feeling connected and knowing where to turn to is an essential element of mothering and care giving.

So what exactly is the benefit of having community and others to connect to?

As mentioned, motherhood brings a range of joys and some unique challenges. Motherhood especially in the early days, can be isolating. We both know this from experience, and from those we have supported. By having a support system, whether already in place or one you are creating, provides a safety net, lessening the feeling of being alone in this profound journey.

This connection supports our emotional wellbeing, it provides a space for emotional expression. knowing you have people to turn to for advice or a listening ear boosts maternal confidence. The sharing of experiences, fears, and joys with an understanding individuals can alleviate stress and offer opportunities for communal problem-solving. Beyond the sense of belonging and emotional support your community can come forward to provide essential practical support. Think meal deliveries to babysitting. This allows new mothers to rest and recover. To take the time to slow down and engage in non-negotiable self care to promote the health of mother and baby.

When facing the complexities of motherhood without adequate support, the question of where to begin can be daunting. Is seeing a psychologist the only solution? Do you need a mental health care plan?

This workshop empowers you with knowledge, reassuring you that you’re not alone, and guides you in understanding the spectrum of supports tailored to your unique needs.

In our Cultivating Support for Pregnancy and Beyond workshop, we’ll dive into:

  • Understanding the Importance of Support: Explore the vital role that social, emotional, and practical support plays during pregnancy and beyond.
  • Assessing Your Current Support: Identify the support structures already in place in your life.
  • Discovering the Spectrum of Support: Learn about the wide range of available supports, moving beyond traditional avenues.
  • Filling the Gaps: Recognize and address any gaps in your current support network.

As a new mother, the journey is not meant to be walked alone. Building and nurturing a support network is a gift you give to yourself and your baby. It’s a recognition that, in this complex and beautiful journey of motherhood, having a village makes all the difference.
